Industry tasks

What EEG tasks are solved in the 'Science and Research' industry

Each industry task has a specific solution: what the neurointerface provides and why it works here.

Budgets for traditional systems

Clinical EEG systems cost as much as a complete laboratory and require a full-time specialist for setup. Research headsets cover most applied tasks for a fraction of that cost — and without staff requalification.

Long subject preparation

Gel, abrasive pastes, head washing after a session — up to half an hour per participant. Saline and dry sensors are applied in minutes, so you can conduct many more sessions per day.

Laboratory integration

Behavior in a shielded room doesn't translate well to real life. Wireless recording works in a classroom, museum, factory, and open spaces — the ecological validity of the experiment increases.

Closed data formats

Recordings export to CSV/EDF, stream via LSL, and are accessible via API—data belongs to you. Process them in Python, MATLAB, or R with familiar libraries without 'black boxes'.

Use case

Use cases

Cognitive research

Attention, working memory, cognitive load, decision-making: EEG rhythm dynamics and ready-made state metrics for each paradigm stage.

Event-related potentials (ERP)

P300, N400, error negativity and SSVEP: stimulus markers are written to the data stream, processing is done by familiar averaging pipelines.

BCI and neurocontrol

Brain-computer interface prototypes: from motor imagery classification to P300 spellers, with SDK for Python and Unity.

Hyperscanning — paired experiments

Synchronized recordings of two or more participants in dyadic tasks: negotiations, joint training, team interaction.

Field and range studies

EEG recording outside the laboratory — in transportation, production, sports venues, and urban environments thanks to battery autonomy.

Educational laboratory workshops

Student laboratory works in neurophysiology and psychophysiology: theory is reinforced with one's own brain rhythms.

Benefits

What you get from implementation

Six measurable benefits: from startup speed to data quality and Russian-language support.

Research-grade at a reasonable budget

14–32 channels, sampling up to 512 Hz and resolution up to 24 bits meet the requirements of most application protocols — without the price of a stationary EEG.

Full access to raw EEG

Export to CSV and EDF, streaming via LSL, REST/WebSocket API — no 'black box'. The methodologist has access to the full signal, not just ready-made reports.

Synchronization with external events

Stimulus markers, LSL compatibility, and pairing with eye-tracking, ECG, and other modalities — multimodal protocols are assembled without custom electronics.

Wireless and mobile

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi range, up to 9 hours of autonomy (EPOC X), and 8+ hours of memory (EPOC X PRO) — experiments move out of the Faraday cage into the field.

Ready-made metrics and raw data simultaneously

Quick insights — with standardized Emotiv metrics, deep analysis — with the raw signal. Both levels are available in a single recording.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about EEG in the 'Science and Research' industry

Is Emotiv suitable for serious scientific research and publications?
Yes. The platform is used in thousands of peer-reviewed publications worldwide—from psychophysiology to BCI. For protocols with high artifact requirements, we recommend EPOC X PRO (24 bits, active amplifiers) or FLEX (gel sensors, up to 32 channels).
How many channels do I need for my research?
For state metrics and simple paradigms, 5–8 channels are sufficient; for topographic analysis and ERP with the 10–20 system, 14–16; for multimodal and clinically oriented protocols, up to 32. Describe your task—we'll suggest a configuration in one call.
In what format are data exported?
Raw EEG exports to CSV and EDF, ready metrics—in tabular format. Software interfaces (Cortex API, LSL) allow writing data to custom pipelines in Python, MATLAB, or C++.
Can EEG be synchronized with stimuli and other equipment?
Yes: events are marked in recordings via EmotivPRO and Cortex API, with LSL streaming available to integrate with stimulation environments, eye trackers, and other devices. Synchronization accuracy depends on the protocol — we'll help you choose the right setup.
How do saline sensors differ from gel ones?
Saline (EPOC X) headsets are applied in minutes and suitable for large participant flows, but require wetting and are limited for marathon sessions. Gel (FLEX) headsets take longer to prepare but provide a more stable signal for long recordings and are resistant to movement.
Will you help with team training and protocol implementation?
Yes. The supply includes training on software and recording, assistance with export setup and synchronization, consultations on methodology. Support in Russian on business days.
