Overview

EPOC X PRO overview: key features

EPOC X PRO is the next generation of wireless Emotiv EEG, created for modern research protocols. The headset retains the proprietary dry sensors with a low preparation threshold but adds 16 channels (parietal P3/P4 added), a 24-bit path with active amplifiers directly on the electrodes, and a selectable sampling frequency of 128/256/512 Hz. Active electrodes reduce impedance noise and motion artifacts—data is cleaner from the first recording, with less time spent on preprocessing.

For mobile and field projects, new communication and memory are critical: the headset transmits data via Bluetooth (hardware support up to version 6.3) and Wi-Fi 6, has onboard memory for over 8 hours of recording at 256 Hz, and timestamp synchronization with approximately 1 ms accuracy. This enables multi-day recordings outside the lab, research in motion, and multimodal protocols with strict timing requirements. Shipments begin under a reservation program—we reserve devices from the first batches for in-demand laboratories.

Benefits

Six reasons to choose EPOC X PRO

Each feature translates to a specific benefit for your project: from participant preparation speed to data quality and total cost of ownership.

24 bits and active amplifiers

24-bit digitization with preamplifiers on the electrodes provides high signal fidelity: less line noise, fewer motion artifacts, and a higher signal-to-noise ratio — especially important for ERP research and analysis of subtle effects.

16 channels with parietal P3/P4

Extended montage adds P3 and P4—key areas for parietal research: attention, working memory, sensorimotor integration. Other leads follow the standard EPOC X scheme.

Selectable frequency up to 512 Hz

128, 256, or 512 Hz—depending on the project needs. For spectral analysis, 128 is sufficient; for high-frequency activity research and accurate ERPs, use 256–512 Hz (512 Hz is a firmware update).

Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth for future-proofing

Two independent transmission channels: Wi-Fi 6 (2.4/5 GHz) for high-bandwidth streams and Bluetooth (tested 5.2, hardware-supported 6.3) for mobile use cases. Low-latency Wi-Fi event markers — via firmware update.

On-board memory 8+ hours

Recording to internal memory solves unsupervised scenarios: multi-day monitoring, research out of coverage area, sports and production. 8+ hours at 256 Hz depending on configuration.

Synchronization accuracy of ~1 ms

Millisecond timestamp alignment is mandatory for multimodal protocols (stimuli, eye-tracker, physiology) and combining data from multiple headsets into one network.

Use case

EPOC X PRO use cases

Next-level laboratory research

ERP, spectral analysis, BCI — with signal quality close to wired systems, but without the wires.

Mobile and field EEG

Multi-day recordings in real environments: production, transportation, sports, education — thanks to memory and Wi-Fi/BLE.

Synchronous multi-subject protocols

Group research (hyperscanning) with millisecond synchronization of multiple headsets via a router.

Studies with high timing requirements

Precise event locking to EEG during strict stimulation protocols and multimodal registration.

Transition from EPOC X without changing methodology

Familiar dry sensors and Emotiv software, but 16 channels, 24 bits, and a clean signal — upgrade your equipment without retraining the team.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about EPOC X PRO

What's the difference between EPOC X PRO and EPOC X?
Key differences: 16 channels instead of 14 (added parietal P3/P4), 24-bit pathway with active amplifiers on electrodes instead of 14/16 bits, selectable sampling rate up to 512 Hz instead of 128/256, Wi-Fi 6 and onboard memory for 8+ hours, synchronization ~1 ms. The fit and dry sensors remain the same—research methodology is unchanged.
When will EPOC X PRO be available for sale in Russia?
The headset is distributed via a reservation program: NeuroSystems reserves devices from the first Emotiv shipments. Submit a quote request — we will secure your position in the queue, send you the specification, and keep you informed about delivery timelines.
Do active electrodes provide a cleaner signal?
Yes. Preamplifiers directly on the electrodes reduce the impact of skin impedance and interference, while a 24-bit ADC increases the dynamic range. In practice, this means fewer motion artifacts and 50 Hz line artifacts—fewer rejected epochs and 'manual data cleaning'.
Can recording be done without a computer at all?
Yes, the onboard memory is designed for over 8 hours of recording at 256 Hz. This makes the PRO optimal for field and industrial research, sports, and any scenarios where operator accompaniment is impossible.
Will PRO work for hyperscanning — simultaneous recording of multiple participants?
Yes. Timestamp synchronization of about 1 ms and operation via a common Wi-Fi router allow combining recordings from multiple headsets into a single protocol — for group studies of interaction and teamwork.
What warranties and support are available for laboratories?
NeuroSystems provides a 12-month warranty, consumable delivery, operator training, and technical support in Russian. For universities and research institutes, we prepare a complete quote with justification for procurement.
